On November 21st an item of mine sold at auction on eBay. It was a piece of music equipment. I sold it for $245 + $15 in shipping, for a total of $260. The buyer PayPal’ed me the money right away. I was not able to go out on Friday (11/22) to ship the item, so I went on Sat/ (11/23) to a Post Office that is open till 9pm on saturdays to mail the item. I purchased insurance and tracking for the item. It was scanned in at the post office at 6:34pm. The next, and last scan ever, was 26 minutes later @ 7pm. The image below is how the tracking info looks on USPS.com at the time of this writing on the evening of Dec. 26th:

Capture

Nov. 30th rolled around adn the package was not delivered. I contacted the seller and we figured we’d wait a day or two and see if the tracking got updated and if the package got delivered. By Dec.4th the package was not delivered and the tracking information was updated. I was not able to run to the post office on the 5th, so I went on Dec. 6th to my local post office (not the one I mailed it from). I spoke with the manager there and explained everything. He looked it up, couldn’t find out any more information than I could, and decided to email the Duluth, Ga. main sorting facility the details to see if they could find the package or come up with some information. He told me that they would get back to him by either calling or emailing him, and he would get back to me right away. He took my phone number. I never got a call back that day, or the next (saturday).

On Monday (the 9th) I went back. He said that he had heard nothing, emailed them again. He also gave me the number for Consumer Affairs and recommended that I open a Research Case to find out where the package went. So, right there in the parking lot of the post office on Monday I called the office of Consumer Affairs and opened a research case. After a 30-40 minute hold to talk to someone, I was finally able to open a research case. I was told that in 1-3 business days (by Dec 12th) I would get a call back with the results.

On the afternoon of Dec. 12 I had not yet received a call back, so I called the Consumer Affairs 1-800 office # to see what was going on. After almost an hour on hold I finally got someone on the phone. They told me that the research case worker, Terry Standridge, had tried to get in touch with me, but my phone number was not working, so he sent me a card so that I could call him back. They read my phone number to me, and they had the last 2 digits switched. This is after the person taking my number read it back to me! So I had that corrected. They told me that the case worker would get back to me either later that afternoon, or the next day (Friday Dec. 13th).

On Friday, Dec. 13th I never got a call back. I tried calling the local (770) number for the case worker and I believe it forwarded me to the 1-800 number.

Check out this webste post. They measured the capacitance of 1/4″ jacks. Of course, this is on Vertex’s website, and they come up #1 in all the tests, but you can’t buy their end connectors.

What surprised me was not only the very large differences between manufacturers, but also the really large differences between TYPES of plugs. No way did I expect right-angle plugs to be so much better than straight plugs. I figured that they would be about all the same, or close to it. And Switchcraft pancake connectors have half the capacitance of Horizon connectors? I’ve always stayed away from all Horizon cables except MIDI cables, as all the ones I had were tone suckers. Maybe it’s time to rethink that a little bit.

This was just in time as I am planning on creating a front patch panel for my rack this month too.

So here is Justin Beiber’s instagram rant from the other day:
http://soletron.com/justin-bieber-posts-hateful-rant-on-instagram/bieber-instagram-rant/

So he apparently believes that it’s ridiculous to think that he would need to go to rehab because, after all, he’s sold a lot of albums and is very successful. Because, you know, only UNsuccessful people go to rehab, right? [facepalm]. And his retort to those who compare him to Lindsay Lohan is to look at her tax statements, because, as we all know, money is the measure of EVERYTHING. And as Lohan pointed out, why single her out and be mean, when she has never had a problem with him or ever exchanged words in the past at all? Why? Because he is 19, surrounded by insulating people telling him that he is great, has no sense of reality, and seems to have the emotional maturity of a 14 year old. That’s why.

Beiber called into TMZ and stated:

“My post was only up for a few minutes but I realized right away that what I said at the end was wrong and distracted from what I was trying to say. I immediately deleted it and rewrote it so it would show what I was really feeling and those words are up now.”

What he is referring to is that he took down the rant and replaced it with the identical one, minus Lindsay’s name. So yeah, mentioning Lindsay’s name totally detracted from his real point, which was that money is the measure of all success. [facepalm, again] But like he said, he is all about positiveness. He is positive that he is the greatest, and he is positive that money equals success (and who wants to lay some cash that he also equates $$$ and album sales to artistic integrity and merit as well?), and he is positive that it’s ridiculous to think that he would have to go into rehab because after all, he is so successful.

And for Beiber’s statements about how his career is just beginning, ummm, there IS a point where tweeny-boppers stop swooning over silly, generally vapid, bubblegum pop songs. You know, like when the singer gets a little older and less relatable, and less potentially “attainable,” etc. Shaun Cassidy posters didn’t always remain on little girls walls in the 70′s either. Take note.

For someone who “has his head on straight” I sure do see a lot of ego and zero humbleness in that rant…

I don’t hate the kid. I sympathize with him: I feel sorry for him. I can totally see him headed straight for Dana Plato-ville. When his album sales and popularity drops, he won’t understand why, and it’s going to mystify and confound him. Then when he makes the realization that his whole outlook was wrong, it’s going to come down like a ton of bricks on him emotionally. And if he tries to make a failed comeback, that will only make things worse. Hopefully, his finances are in the hands of good, honest people at least. Good, honest people? In the music business? LOL!

People see his Instagram post as an opportunity to rant on him, call him a douche, etc. Not me. I simply see it as a sad situation. I can’t exactly fault him for thinking like a douche when he is surround by people that likely feed and feed and feed that very mentality.

… should have been called “100 most popular women in music of the past 10-20 years or so”

Any list like this that does not include Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Ella Fitzgerald, Mahalia Jackson, Patsy Cline, Maybelle Carter, Loretta Lynn, Tina Turner, Billie Holiday, Ma Rainey, or Bessie Smith **just to name a FEW*** simply does not deserve the title they gave it. Oh! But it DID include Miley Cyruss and American Idol’s Fantasia!!! Thanks goodness for that!

Here is a link to the entire sorry list:

RIAA wants to sue Limewire for $75 TRILLION. The first 2 paragraphs say it all:

So we’re all pretty desensitized by now to the mind-blowing stupidity on display by the record industry in its foolhardy attempts at assigning damages in piracy cases — was anyone surprised when they told one woman, who had shared 24 songs, that she owed nearly two million dollars? Yes, ridiculous. But this — this is beyond ridiculous. This is… sublime.

The record companies suing Limewire were asked to estimate the damages that should be paid by the file-sharing service. Their estimate? $400 Billion on the low end, and at the high end — $75 trillion dollars. That’s more than the GDP of the entire world.

There is an item in the news today. It’s gotten brief mentions on Fox and CNN about an asteroid (discovered in 2004) that might impact the Earth in 2029, or 2036 (on its return trip). The reason this is making news today is because the head of Russia’s space agency is raising the alarm.

Here is the story:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/2009/12/30/2009-12-30_russian_space_chief.html

Now, heres the fun part! According to this page:

http://www.rockprophecy.com/view.html

Jimi Hendrix predicted this back in the 60′s!

Using such completely infallible logic as he was the first to be called a “rock star” (nowhere near true) and:
“Rock = Asteroid. Star = Comet. Sublimation: Rock Star – conduit for a vision of asteroid impact.”

they offer rock solid (pun intended) PROOF of Jimi Hendrix’s predictions/prophecies!

Hilarious!

“How the CIA and Military Control the Music Industry”

http://www.illuminati-news.com/00357.html

It’s not supposed to be funny, but I found it hilarious.

Here are some of my favorite parts:

“more people become aware of that this world is to a major degree controlled by a secret cabal we call the Illuminati…. This fact is accepted by many, because the evidence is overwhelming”

“a golden opportunity to influence the masses and lead them in any direction you want. All you need to do is to create super heroes (Gods) that people can look up to and follow.”

Yup.  Apparently the music industry can easily and simply just make “Gods.”  By “Gods” he obviously means musicians and groups that are widely loved, and maybe fanatically followed (Led Zep, Ozzy, Hendrix, The Beatles, etc.).  So, if it’s so easy, why aren’t ALL of the artists in a record company’s roster hugely successful?  I mean, is just that simple, isn’t it?  LOL!

And from quackery 101:

“it is because they are actually leading the audience into violence and darkness by tuning down the guitars to lower vibrations, turning up the volume to maximum and repeating hypnotic riffs over and over again. What stays in people’s minds is not that we should turn to God, but that Black Sabbath is singing about the Devil and demon possession and it’s cool. People start getting interested in mysticism and occultism of the darkest kind instead, as per the plan. It’s mind control, my friends.”

More gems:

“the fact that more often than not, the top artists within the music and film industries, their managers and producers have military and/or military intelligence connections.”

That statement is then followed by examples from specific artists.  Apparently anyone who has a relative that worked for the government in some capacity has intelligence connections.  Here’s a great example of the retardedness typical in the article:

“John attended a series of elite military prep schools in the Washington, D.C. area, culminating in an appointment to the prestigious U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis”

elite military prep schools?  John Phillips went to George Washington High School.  A PUBLIC school in Virginia!

Once, in 1927, David Crosby’s father and John Phillips father were on the same island!  Nothing about them knowing each other, or even being on the island at the same time though…  Wow.   The evidence is damning!

“according to the New England Genealogical Society, David Van Cortlandt Crosby is also a direct descendant of ‘Founding Fathers’ and Federalist Papers’ authors Alexander Hamilton and John Jay.”

Gee, nothing says “anti-american conspiracy” like being the descendant of one of the founders of the country, right?  Right?

“Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, USA, while his father was stationed at an Army base in Oklahoma.”

In China, a butterfly flutters its wings… in Wyoming a pig farts.  Coincidence?!?!?!  You make the call!  LOL!

But wait!  There’s more!

“several excellent books written on the subject of occultism and Satanism, among which Fritz Springmeier’s and Cisco Wheeler’s, “The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave” is perhaps one of the better in the genre. In this book … the music industry (and the Country Music Industry in particular) is loaded with artists who work as mind control programmers, and many of the musicians are mind control slaves with split personalities, themselves victims of MK ULTRA mind control. “

“The Country Music Industry is nothing but a front for secret Illuminati drug smuggling”

If you are a musician and reading this…  well you’re probably a mind slave…  And if you are a COUNTRY musician, well you are an Illuminati drug smuggler to boot!!!!!!!

“The child must learn to match identical items very early–even before they can speak. This is so they will be able to build mirror images into their mind.”

Ssooooooo…..  apparently many of you musicians out there….  the Illuminati mind controllers have been programming you since before you could talk.  Little did you know that you have been groomed since birth to be a musician/mind-control slave!!!!

The Dark Side Of The Moon” from 1973 seems to be tightly connected to “The Wizard of Oz” movie from 1939 in an interesting way, possibly to trigger mind control survivors.”

Man, I just don’t even need to commen on that.

the drugs and sexual orgies which are characteristic features of hard-core rock affairs”

Well crap!  I must be going to the wrong concerts then!

Well, I brought you the Gibson Hendrix signature Strat-monstrosity, but this is really ridiculous.  Gibson has realy jumped the shark with this one.  Whoever is pitching this stuff should be fired, and whoever approved this stuff and gave it the final go-ahead should be the one to fire him, and then follow closely on his heels by being fired himself.

I present to you the Gibson Jimi Hendrix Piano?!?!?  It’s bad enough to put his name on a guitar that he never played, which is a direct and blatant rip-off of a guitar made by another manufacturer (who has already produced several Jimi Hendrix signature models), but quite another to make a signature version of an instrument that he never even played!!!!  And gee, what a BARGAIN at a MERE $168,848 !!!!!  I’ll take seven!

JimiPiano

And if thats not bad enough, inside the top of the piano is this picture which looks like, as someone on a forum suggested, Lamont from the TV Show Sanford & Son more than Jimi Hendrix.

JimiPianoFace

Wow.  Hideous, and hideously expensive.  My apologies to the artist, but this thing looks like it was painted by a 3rd grader.

So, when’s the Gibson Signature Beethoven Banjo and the Gibson Signature W.A. Mozart distortion pedal coming out?

Man, I just HAVE to blog about this!  The Hendrix Family Estate is now officially the Gene Simmons of the 60’s, senselessly throwing the brand name on anything that comes along, and who cares if it cheapens the name or what.  They struggled to get the rights away from Jeffrey, and now they are doing the same thing he did, but on a larger scale.

http://tinyurl.com/mld88n

The review from Music Radar is spot-on.  For those tha don’t get it, or don’t want to go over there, allow me to summarize:

1) Jimi played a few Gibsons, but they were a Flying V (several have been issued as tributes by Gibson in the past), a few Les Pauls, and an SG.

2) Hendrix played Fender strats, and because they were right-handed and played upside down, they basically has a “reversed headstock”.  These look like those.  But they aren’t Fender guitars.  They are a new guitar, never before made, and never before played by Jimi.

3) Gibson has issued many lawsuits, most notably against Guitar Hero and against PRS for guitar design infringement.  Their cases were weak at best.  The PRS Single Cut doesn’t really look like a Les Paul.  No self-respecting guitar player would EVER confuse the two.  Now GIbson is doing the same thing that they accuse everyone else of doing, only they are taking it one step further.  It’s one thing to have something that is VERY similar to a fender guitar.  Fender could claim that these two could be confused in the market place.  But to then associate that copy item with an artists who is perhaps the most well-known player of the original in the world, is REALLY crossing the line.  Normally Fender wouldn’t get anywhere if they filed a suit because they would have to show that they aggressively defend their trademark shape, which they don’t do, but this is SO BLATANT and literally design specifically to confuse the market, that Fender might have a chance, should they stop laughing and crying and decide to sue.

This thing is wrong on so many levels, that I predict there will be a huge outcry and backlash from the guitar community.  Gibson will quickly discontinue this.  At first there will be a small collectors market for them because they will be discontinued, but no one will want such a thing, and it will lose all value in the collectors market as well.

The Hendrix estate is slapping Jimi’s name on anything and everything, from remastered bootlegs are circulating in the trading market, to “complete” recordings that are NOT complete, to this monstrosity.  Someone take this company away from Janie and give it to Leon, PLEASE!!!!!!  Who is running things, Gene Simmons?  It sure seems like it.  He has cheapened the KISS brand to laughable status (IMHO), adn now this.

Both Gibson and the Hendrix Estate are REALLY jumping the shark on this one, and Jimi is rolling over in his grave in complete disgust, I’m sure.

Well, I wanted to test out some blogging software, and I’m still working on more stuff thats really related to the site, so I don’t really have anything, so I thought I would post something music-related at least.  Something interesting, possibly along the lines of my first post on this site, but not necessarily blues related.  So I’m going to copy some stuff from the SIGI-LICIOUS blog site.  You may wonder what a blog on being Italian has to do with music.  Or maybe not if you, umm, read the title of this blog post.

Bluedevilhorns

Well, the person that brought this into our pop culture was Ronnie James Dio, the singer for metal bands such as Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio.  He got it from his grandmother, who used to use it all the time to ward off “The Evil Eye.”  While people these days call it “the Devil Horns” or the “Sign of the Devil,” its not.  Its actually the opposite and used to ward off evil.

So what is The Evil Eye?  Well first of all it comes from Italian witchcraft, so its superstition, and over the years its part superstition, and part tradition.  In other words, its like the Italian equivalent of not walking under ladders, or believing that breaking a mirror will bring you 7 years bad luck, etc.  Its superstitious, and becomes tradition almost for fun, but mostly cause you’ve heard it ever since you were a kid, despite the fact that you don’t believe it.  ANYWAY… The Evil Eye is when someone sees you and envy’s something about you, so they put a “curse” on you that will make you sick or whatever.  That curse is called The Evil Eye.  Say you get a promotion at work.  Someone may come up and say Congratulations, and then secretly when they walk away “put a curse on you” because they are jealous of you.  Another name for the curse is Maloik.

So what are the Devil Horns?  Well, they are really called “mano cornuta.”  The mano cornuta is used to ward off the Evil Eye, or Maloik.  SO they aren’t evil, but really protection FROM evil.  It just so happens that in the 70’s and 80’s heavy metal music was often associated with the devil (gee, blues fans, where have we seen that before in pop culture?).  Ronnie James Dio used to throw up the Devil Horns at shows.  It kinda became the “sign for heavy metal” and of course because it LOOKS like devil horns, and it relates to old witchcraft, so it then quickly because known as “the Devil Horns”

The sign can also be used to GIVE the Evil Eye, in which case it is called the Malocchio, or Maloik.  So to sum up, to curse someone its the malocchio, to protect from being cursed its the mano cornuta.  You will rarely hear it called the mano cornuta.  Either way this sign dates back probably hundreds of years.

Here’s where things get weird.  In 1969 there was this band called Coven.  They had a bass player named Oz Osborne (not the same person as Ozzy Osbourne).  Oz was into the occult and studied it.  On the album “Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls” in 1969 there was a song, in fact the very first song on side one, called “Black Sabbath”!!!  And yes, this album pre-dates Black Sabbath’s first album!  On the back cover of Oz Osborne’s album with the song “Black Sabbath” on it is a picture of a satanic “Black Mass” giving the devil horns sign.  This album includes such lyrics as “Hail Satan.”

CovenDevilHorns

According to Wikipedia this band likely did have an influence on Black Sabbath, though there is no real evidence to directly support this that I know of.  The album is really awful (you can find some of the songs on YouTube), and sounds like a really bad and evil Jefferson Airplane.
